In occasion of 84° the Turn of Italy MediaNET has been taken care, on behalf of the Gazette of the Sport and Eutelsat, of the codification and direct Internet transmission of the images of the manifestation. The greater engagement was to offer a “classic alternative” vision to the traditional one in television, with the possibility to choose when and what to see. L'84° Turn of Italy has been mainly the test bench for the new Platform Multimedia of Eutelsat and for OpenSKY. The customers connected to this innovative satellite platform could have an assay of this multimedia broad band technology, while watching the Turn through one common parabola on their PC using the new Mpeg4 format with television quality, being able to interact very directly with the supplier of information and surfing the Internet at 700Kb to the second! MediaNET instead has been taken care of the direct transmission on the Internet of the images of the Turn for all those who did not have satellite OpenSKY card and were connected to the Web through a normal connection such as ISDN or ADSL.

MediaNET on behalf of the Department of the Interior is in charge to organize a network connection among the 20 Prefectures of the principal Italian chief towns, to allow, on the occasion of the Bicentennial of the institute Prefettizio, a high quality audiovisual connection between the office and the various Prefectures. With the purpose to offer a reliable service and at the same time upgradable, a mixed system of receipt DVB and IP installed near the Prefectures has been chosen. Thanks to a double parable, endowed with double LNB, the Prefectures will receive both the satellite signals incoming from the family of satellites Hot Bird to 13° east, and the data IP coming from the multimedia base OpenSKY, to 7°est. This allows the Prefectures both to receive the normal satellite channels and be able to get TV DVB in Mpeg-2 services, both to receive Broad band Satellite Internet and the new digital thematic channels in Mpeg-4 in OpenSKY. MediaNET has successfully been able to achieve in a few days,the preparation and testing and to make operational 20 receiving posts in the different Prefectures. Using a mobile mean, the 24th of June has been achieved the first transmission between the Department of the Interior and the various Prefectures, being able to follow in this way, the inaugural intervention of Minister Scajola and Minister Gasparri.
The City of the Science in Naples, built in the area that hosted the iron establishments of Bagnoli, on november 23rd 2001 has seen the inauguration of the area "Science Centre" built inside the same structure. The Science Center, the first one in Italy, is an "alive museum", in which the science, the art, the architecture and the technology melt together in an innovative offer putting itself in the tradition of the scientific museums of the new generation. For the inauguration of the Science Centre a thematic show in the communications field is held , entitled "signs, symbols and signals" that involves all the aspects of communications, the new technologies and methodic broad band Internet communication that we live nowadays. MediaNET, in collaboration with Eutelsat, has taken part in this demonstration as technological partner, making its know-how and its human resources available to realize the direct transmission of the inaugural videoconference. The solutions for videoconferencing of MediaNET represent the state of the art in the sector. The possibility to manage multicast videoconferences, sharing documents, electronic signature and booking management and satellite band "on demand" allow us to affirm that MediaNET is the best choice to face with success the demands of distance communication of our days.
The “Futuristic Space Technologies” promoted by the ASI, Italian Spatial Agency, in collaboration with the area Science Park in Trieste has been the first one of a series of meetings in which experienced of the sector discussed about spatial future technologies. MediaNET has dealt with the live streaming transmission of the event, using two satellite bases, VSAT and DVB-IP, different among them, but perfectly integrated. In fact the audiovisual signals were codified in real-time inside the Science Park and transmitted through a link satellite VSAT (Satellite W1) to the HUB satellite Eutelsat in Paris, where the stream was encapsulated with DVB protocol and transmitted in multicast broadband to all the consumers of the base satellite IP (Satellite W3).
